Proposed Constitutional Amendments
Election Day is Nov 3 – Early Voting Begins Sept 18
The 2026 General Assembly passed three resolutions to amend Virginia’s constitution:
- an extreme “right to abortion” amendment,
- an amendment to repeal the one-man/one-woman marriage provision, and
- an amendment to restore voting rights.
The proposals will appear on the Nov. 3 ballot as statewide referendums. Early voting begins Sept. 18.
Opposing Extreme Abortion Amendment: The VCC opposes a proposed amendment that would enshrine a “fundamental right” to abortion in Virginia’s constitution.
Protecting Marriage: The VCC opposes a proposed amendment that would repeal the one-man/one-woman marriage provision in Virginia’s constitution – a provision approved by Virginia voters in 2006 with strong support by the VCC.
Restoring Voting Rights: The VCC supports a proposed constitutional amendment that would guarantee the restoration of voting rights to all who have completed their prison sentences.
