By Michael K. Lewis, Associate Director, Virginia Catholic Conference
The Virginia Catholic Conference has released its annual legislative vote charts, tracking key votes on issues during the 2014 General Assembly session.
How did your senator and delegate vote on issues important to the Catholic Church in Virginia during the recent General Assembly session? The chart for Diocese of Arlington legislators is here and the chart for Diocese of Richmond legislators is here.
During this year’s 60-day session, January 8 to March 8, the Conference took formal positions on more than 80 bills and budget amendments. The two Conference-prepared charts record eight Senate floor and committee votes and eight House floor and committee votes that were focal points of Conference advocacy.
Among its pursuits this year, the Conference thwarted bills that would have repealed protections for the unborn and expanded use of the electric chair. It successfully achieved conscience protections for genetic counselors and an improved school-choice program.
See how your legislators voted on important issues this year, and if their votes warrant it, send them a thank you note for standing with the Conference on key priorities this year! Find your legislators’ contact info here. Your voice matters.
