Pray for our civic leaders during this time of crisis

Pray for our civic leaders during this time of crisis

They need God’s guidance as they make far-reaching decisions that affect us all.

Last evening, we joined nearly 3,000 fellow members of the faith community in a virtual meeting hosted by the Governor’s office and the Virginia Department of Health to discuss the COVID-19 outbreak and establish a line of communication between the faith community and state government.  As it happened, this conference call came mere hours after the Governor announced that schools in the Commonwealth would be closed for the rest of the school year to promote social distancing and limit the spread of COVID-19 infection.

The wide range of information shared on the call reminded us that, just as our faith communities are facing unprecedented challenges, so too are our civic leaders as they make decisions with far-reaching consequences in response to a continually evolving crisis. A prayer from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops asks that God grant public health officials and all civics leaders “courage and prudence as they seek to respond to this emergency with compassion and in service to the common good.” Please join us in prayer for all of our elected officials and civil servants – who are doing their best to provide leadership and guidance during this very difficult time.

May God’s grace and peace be with you and your families in the midst of these challenges. We join you in praying for all who are affected by COVID-19 and for all who are caring for them.

In prayer and in public, your voices are urgently needed to bring Gospel values to bear on vital decisions being made by those who represent you.
