One week left until Virginia Pro-Life Day!
Register Today!
Virginia Pro-Life Day is just one week from today! Register now to join pro-life advocates from around the commonwealth in Richmond. Meet with your legislators to advocate against dangerous bills that expand abortion and for policies that affirm the life and dignity of every mother and every child. After your meetings with legislators, a Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Knestout and Bishop Burbidge for all in attendance.
Just yesterday, a resolution proposing to amend Virginia’s constitution by adding an extreme and deadly “right to abortion” amendment (SJ 247) passed the Senate. The House had already passed the same proposal (HJ 1). These resolutions are the first step in the two-year process required to amend our state’s constitution. By participating in Virginia Pro-Life Day, you can be a part of the ongoing fight to stop this amendment.
In a joint statement issued yesterday, Bishops Burbidge and Knestout said, “Of utmost priority, we once again express our alarm and dismay at the aggressive pursuit of enshrining a “right” to abortion in Virginia’s constitution by majorities in the House and Senate. This resolution is extreme, radical, deadly, and tragically misguided. It would expand our Commonwealth’s already very permissive abortion laws and allow virtually unlimited abortion at any stage of pregnancy. We again implore all lawmakers to work instead for policies that affirm the life and dignity of every mother and every child.”
In addition to expressing their continued strong opposition to the proposed constitutional amendment, participants will be able to speak out against other extreme bills being considered this session, including bills that elevate abortion to an exclusive status and give abortion providers unprecedented legal protections, and bills that would force health plans to cover life-ending drugs.
This year there are also a number of measures that we are excited to support that would help pregnant women, children and families such as an adoption tax credit, child tax credit, and a born alive protection bill which requires reasonable lifesaving treatment and care for any baby who survives an abortion attempt.
We hope you will join us next week in Richmond!
